CHARITY Horse Heroes Commemorates U.S. World War One Centennial

One Hundred Years Ago Today America's Soldiers Joined America's Horses and Mules on the Battlefields of Europe and Changed the World
Exactly one hundred years ago today, onApril 6,1917, the United States entered World War One - three years after the war had begun in Europe. For those three years between the beginning of the war and the time that the U.S. joined, we sent approximately one million American horses and mules to serve the allies before sending two million American soldiers.

Brooke USA is commemorating the 100th anniversary of WWI through a special year-long campaign called "Horse Heroes," to honor the animals who served alongside the brave soldiers, by raising funds to improve equine welfare around the world in their memory.

One Million  Horses One Million  Heroes One Million Dollars

Help us raise $1 million this year - just one dollar in honor of each American horse and mule who served in WWI - and Brooke will reach more animals who are suffering.

Your tax-deductible gift will support Brooke's practical, sustainable, scientifically proven equine welfare programs in the developing world and make a lasting difference for them and for their poor owners.

What better way to pay homage to faithful war horses to whom we owe a debt of gratitude, than by helping hard working horses who are suffering as they serve the people who depend on them today?

In the first three months of our Horse Heroes campaign, we have already raised more than $250,000 toward our $1 million goal to fund equine welfare programs around the world.

Horse Heroes: Official Centennial Partner of the United States WWI Centennial Commission
We are very honored to announce that the  U.S. WWI Centennial Commission has made Brooke USA’s Horse Heroes campaign an official Centennial Partner in remembering the contribution of America’s horses and mules to the war effort.

The Commission was established by the U.S. Congress under the World War I Centennial Commission Act. The role of the Commission is, among other things, to develop programs to commemorate the historic event and to encourage and facilitate the activities of private, state, and local organizations which are commemorating the centennial. President Obama signed the Act, and Presidents Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush are Honorary Chairs of the Commission.

Horses, mules, and donkeys served mankind yesterday...

...and they're still serving today, around the world.
Thank you to all of our veterans!

While our focus is on the  contributions made by America's equines to WWI, it is only in addition to our deep respect and unwavering gratitude to the men and women  who  served, suffered and died.

Our Horse Heroes Medal:
Our handsome Brooke USA Horse Heroes medal was designed by world-renowned sculptor Alexa King, based on the likeness of Old Bill, above.

Old Bill was a former WWI horse hero who was left behind by the army in Cairo after the war. He is the symbol of our Horse Heroes campaign and for us represents all equines who served in WW1.

Read his story at Horse Heroes .
