Grand Champions Polo Club's Melissa Ganzi Talks Polo

WELLINGTON, FL-May 27, 2013---Celebrated polo player Melissa Ganzi, co-owner of Grand Champions Polo Club and Piaget team captain, will talk about her professional life and share personal polo stories on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Wellington Branch Library.

It is the third and final educational lecture and hands-on workshop to help educate the community about the growing sport of polo.

Piaget's Melissa Ganzi on her way to scoring one of her two goals.

Ganzi and the National Polo Museum and Hall of Fame are trying to promote the sport to all ages while educating the community about the finer points of the game.

The first lecture was geared toward kids. Ganzi hosted a children's introductio to polo teaching them the basic rules of the game while showing them the equipment used in the sport including mallets and balls.

The children were able to learn about the sport up-close- and-personal during a mini-polo match where everyone got a chance to try and score a goal.

The second workshop was A Sneak Peak At Polo, presented by museum curators George and Brenda DuPont.

Ganzi's discussion on Wednesday night will be geared more to adults. Ganzi will talk about her professional life and share some of her personal experiences in the sport.

This past weekend Ganzi was named the Most Valuable Amateur Player at the Piaget Memorial Day Cup at Grand Champions Polo Club.

Ganzi is the first woman player to win the coveted Ylvisaker Cup in a game that pitted husband against wife for the first time in a high goal final and first woman player to capture the Monty Waterbury Cup. She has competed in every 20- and 26-goal polo tournament in Wellington.

Ganzi is one of the sport's ambassadors on and off the field and encourages diversity by hosting juniors, women's, gay, international and medium goal tournaments throughout the year.

The Wellington Branch Library is located at 1951 Royal Fern Drive off Forest Hill Blvd., just past The Mall at Wellington Green. For more information and to pre-register call 561-790-6070.
